I have a new girlfriend.

She’s absolutely beautiful…and a lot older than I am. 25 years older, to be exact! But she’s so energetic and full of life, you’d think she was still in her teens.

Want to see a picture?

I’d been wanting to make C a hat similar to this one, since she’s a big fan of Mary J Blige and even looks a bit like her. I used this pattern but modified it to make the hat deeper and to replace the back ribbing with more cables. The brim turned out bigger that I intended but hopefully C won’t mind.

The yarn is Cascade Baby Alpaca Chunky, which is so soft and light it’s like knitting with a cloud (I still haven’t decided if that’s a good thing or not).

I finished the knitting part the night our house was burglarized, so the project got lost in the chaos for a while, but I finally got around to buying the buttons and brim material. Since my camera’s been stolen, I had to use my cell phone camera to take pictures– I hope the quality’s not too bad. Here’s a closeup of the cables.

Due to unfortunate circumstances, I no longer have a laptop or a digital camera, and I have a lot of nonsense to deal with so I won’t be replacing them any time soon.

This probably means I won’t be posting much for a while. I’m also trying to find a new apartment and move into it before the end of the month, so I don’t have time to knit or cook or craft anyway. However, I’m going to visit my parents this weekend, so I may be able to use their electronics to post pictures of my latest FO.

In happier news, I got a part-time job as a baker! More on this later.

I know I won’t accomplish all of these things, but I’d like to try.

  1. Join a knitting group– I’ve been to a few, but never got into the habit of going regularly. I’m going to check out a new one tomorrow.
  2. Experiment with dying yarn.
  3. Knit another sweater.
  4. Knit an afghan.
  5. Relearn how to use a sewing machine.
  6. Take an art or craft class– Can anyone recommend one? They all seem to be too expensive or too far away.
  7. Find more excuses to decorate cakes– Perhaps I should start hosting afternoon teas at my house.
  8. Get better at photography.
  9. Participate in a swap on Craftster or Ravelry.
  10. Learn a new craft– Quilting and resin jewelry making interest me, and someone recently told me that framing is one of the most useful crafts you could learn.
  11. Finishing languishing projects– In particular, a painting that has been sitting around half-finished since July.
  12. Open up an Etsy shop– Unlikely to happen, but I’d love to do it someday.

These are some of the photos I took while I was in NJ last weekend. DC has some beautiful foliage as well, but I haven’t been able to photograph it because it gets dark so early now. Next weekend, I hope.

… so I don’t have any updates. Sorry.

I cast on for Foliage last night, using KnitPicks Shine Worsted in Green Apple. The color is crisp and bold and luscious, just like its namesake.

The lace pattern is coming along nicely and crown shaping was a lot of fun. C spilled a glass of water on it and the yarn became a pain to work with after that, so I called it quits for the night. I hope it dries so I can return to it today!

I got this email from my LYS. Wouldn’t it make a neat Christmas present for a fellow knitter?

I would like to invite you to become a Charter Member to the Stitch DC Stash Club.  Inspired by the Sheep and Wool Festival this spring, I have been busy looking for unique yarns to fill our shelves.  The only problem is that most smaller producers can only fulfill smaller limited orders.  So instead I’m inviting you to join a limited membership Stash Club that will receive my favorite yarns each month.

As a member, starting in January 2009, you will receive a new yarn each month along with a special pattern.  PLUS, you’ll be invited to two Stash Club Parties and receive special discounts throughout the year.

Membership is $165 for the year.  But, if you join by November 15, you will be a Charter Member and save with a membership of only $135 plus you’ll receive an extra gift of yarn this December.

To join, just call and sign up.  Remember, membership also makes a great gift — just let us know that you’d like to sign up a loved one for membership and we’ll do all the rest.

Happy Crafting,
Marie

So I compiled photos from everything I’ve blogged about so far and put them in convenient categories you can access at the top of the page. I’ll try to be good about updating, though I can’t promise you anything.
